Berks County Heritage Center
1102 Red Bridge Road, Reading, PA 19605 - United States
The historical interpretive complex commemorates important eras of Berks County’s industrial transportation history.
There are two museums on site: The Gruber Wagon Works - National Historic Landmark, and C. Howard Hiester Canal Center - Union and Schuylkill Canal History.
In addition to the museums, check out Wertz’s Covered Bridge, Melcher’s Grist Mill, Deppen Cemetery, Bicentennial Eagle Memorial, Police and Veteran’s Memorial, Doctor’s Grove, the Distlefink and a salad and herb garden — all a part of the Heritage Center.
Our museum will be open for tours this day as well as we have a display about the Gruber Family in our visitors center, and a display on wagons and canals in the lower level of our barn.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
