Brooksville, Florida has three museums owned and managed by the Hernando Historical Museum Association, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization. The first is The May-Stringer House Museum, 601 Museum Ct. This seven gable 14 Room, three story “Painted Lady” Victorian Era home originally built in 1856 is perched on top of a hill overlooking the City of Brooksville and has over 11,000 artifacts on display.

Exhibits

The May Stringer Museum has 14 rooms, some with Victorian style furnishing plus other rooms devoted to special exhibits including an Elegant Dining Room, Victorian Master Bedroom and Authentic War military room with uniforms from the civil war to Vietnam, a late 1800s doctor’s office and a communications room with a 1940′s switchboard.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis.
