Sam Houston stayed with the Harrell's while awaiting the steamboat on the Trinity River to transport him to Galveston, New Orleans and beyond. There was a Choctaw Village nearby and Houston would enjoy visits to his Indian friends while staying with the Harrells.

Houses with 460 examples of 19th Century hand-made Texas furniture, plus hundreds of works of art, antique quilts, as well as the Kitche Collection and the Library of Texana.

We have numerous museums. We NEVER charge admission. Small town museums of the highest quality.

We have the world's largest collections of 19th century Texas handmade furniture and Texas stoneware.

We have great collections of art and also educational opportunities for both children and adults in a collection of historic buildings from 1830, 1831, 1834 1844, 1845, 1848, 1860 (2), 1870's, 1890's etc.

Our museums are open for tours 365 days a year BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
