Smithsonian recognizes the extraordinary power of museums and other cultural institutions to provide visitors with insight and inspiration. This event represents a commitment to boundless curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge wherever you are.
The objective of Museum Day Live! goes beyond getting visitors through our doors. This effort is meant to empower and help advance the hopes and ambitions of the public, particularly middle schoolers, high schoolers, and those in their early 20’s. More than being a token field trip, museums and cultural institutions can provide that spark for young people that lives on past their visit.
LESSON PLANS FEATURING MINECRAFT: EDUCATION EDITION
This year, Museum Day Live! features special interactive lesson plans created by Smithsonian in partnership with Microsoft using Minecraft: Education Edition. These lesson plans are designed to stimulate STEM activities in a variety of settings.
In the links below, you will find resources, suggestions, and methods to prepare for Museum Day Live! and also sample activities to provide you with ideas to implement the program at your institution. As the model for museum visitation has shifted from objects in a room to a more engaging experience, we hope these extensions will be a springboard for your museum to reach broader audiences, discover new ways to frame your collections, and keep the experience alive after your guests leave the museum.
