The beauty of this project is that it touched hearts, offered practical means for involvement, inspired creativity, utilized math, design and crocheting skills, educated, and gathered people together to actively show their concern, commitment, love, as a community of concerned individuals, to save and protect all the endangered coral reefs, around our world. Bravo.

A wonderful idea! I was the first Chairman of the U.S. All Islands Coral Reef Initiative Coordinating Committee (USAICRICC), helped develop the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force, served as U.S. representative to the first International Coral Reef Initiative, served as Ex. Director of the USAICRICC and spent nearly 20 years working to protect Guam's coral reefs. The rain forests stand a better chance of protection than coral reefs do because, no matter where you are from you probably have a woods or forest nearby, or at least a stand of trees, and can therefore understand what the rainforests are. The overwhelming majority of people will never see or be directly impacted by a coral reef, and therefore have less empathy for its plight. Every effort to educate the general population is worthy - and this one is also beautiful.

This is so wonderful. I am totally amazed at the beauty,the workmanship and the creative way this project brings awareness to the importance of the coral reef.

Read your article. Was absolutely blown away by the expertise of these women. Belong to a Knit and Crochet club that crafts for the hospitals, nursing homes, crises centers, etc. Intend to bring up your article, and deeds. Thank you for caring. I saw your article in the latest issue of the Smithsonian and found it extremely interesting. Thank you for presenting it. It has been so long since I have been in Washington, D.C. but when we are there make it a point to visit the Renwick Gallery. Am totally amazed at the creativity of people. The visual effect of "Crochet A Coral Reef" really made an impact on me. Was also glad you made the statement concerning how this project gave many "artist" the opportunity to contribute when otherwise their work never would have been displayed. Thank you. Judy
