Kelly is a wonderful ambassador for the sport of surfing. Perfect ambassador, health-minded, ecology-minded, a good sport. Technically perfect. Would only take exception to one comment above, namely, it's not just a young man's sport as I am 38, a woman, and about to go hit some beautiful swell here in O'ahu. :)

Unquestionably one of the best atheletes of all time. To dominate a young man's sport with a brutal global contest schedule in often dangerous conditions for 20 years is unprecedented.
It is interesting to note that 20 world championships have been won by surfers from the Florida East coast from Flagler Beach to Cocoa. Way ahead of even California, Hawaii or Australia. Of course Kelly's 11 really pump that figure up, but still.
