This is a great explanation of the Peacock Room ... but the "back story" that has been left out is that of Charles Lang Freer ... the Detroit industrialist who was the person responsible for bringing the Peacock Room from London to his own home in Detroit. Freer's generous contribution to the Smithsonian, the Freer Gallery, included his personal collection of art AND the Peacock Room.

I am a Whistler fan of many years and when I saw the Peacock Room in person I was more than amazed and astounded at the beauty, grace, and history of this artistic achievement. Thanks to the Smithsonian everyone can appreciate ths masterpiece. Thanks for spotlighting it in your magazine.

Loved the photographs--not so sure about the commentary, which didn't really tell the story. Would have liked a longer look at individual views.

First time I have looked at Smithsonian Institute site, this is why you are such a great country, ahead of all others. Great minds in America, past and present. Forward thinkers and the ability to think outside the square. Thank you for your site. I,ll be passing it on to others. God bless America and all your people. je reveins. Louise Sydney Australia.
