In a throwback to the time of poodle skirts and sock hops, the Diamond State Drive-In in Felton offers up the magic of the silver screen in the great outdoors. The only remaining drive-in movie theater in Delaware, the Diamond State opened in 1949 and keeps people coming back by offering double features at affordable prices.
Book worms will be pleased to know that Delaware keeps up with its reading, too. Oak Knoll Books in New Castle is a book dealer specializing in antiquities that also has the largest inventory of books about books and bibliography in the world. Oak Knoll Press, which publishes and distributes over 1,000 titles, is located in New Castle as well.
One quirky destination that visitors will not soon forget is the Elsie Williams Doll Collection housed in Georgetown. Elsie Steele Williams, the wife of Senator John Williams of Millsboro, donated the entire collection to the Delaware Technical and Community College in 1990. The collection, made up of more than 600 dolls from all over the world that are dressed in native costumes or garments reserved for ceremonial occasions, merges child's play with anthropological study.
