The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico sits about 1,200 miles off the coast of Florida, east of the Dominican Republic and west of the Virgin Islands. It's bordered on the north by the Atlantic Ocean and on the south by the Caribbean Sea. The Commonwealth consists of several islands, the largest of which is the mountainous tropical island of Puerto Rico, followed by islands of Vieques, Culebra and Mona. While all of the islands boast enticing waters and soft sand beaches and while Puerto Rico is a regular stop on the cruise ship circuit, this Caribbean outpost is much more than simply a touristy beach destination.
