    Earth Day Clean-Up
    Saturday, April 19, 9-11 a.m.
    The Zoo and FONZ invite you to celebrate Year of the Frog and Earth Day at a clean-up of Rock Creek. Volunteers will remove debris from Rock Creek's banks to keep the surrounding ecosystem healthy.

    Smithsonian Institution—The Anacostia Community Museum
    Environmental Lecture: Waterways and Green Spaces: Earth Day, East of the River
    This special program focuses on measures taken to address threats to the natural environment of the District's east of the river community, including the following:
    • "Life of the Anacostia River" by Jim Connolly, Anacostia Watershed Society
    • "Preserving Fort Circle Parks and Other Natural Treasures East of the Anacostia River" by Stephen Syphax, National Park Service
    • "One Community's Effort to Reclaim the Marvin Gaye Park" by Dennis Chestnut, Washington's Parks and People
    In collaboration with the Sierra Club and Ward 8 Environmental Council

    Smithsonian Institution—Ecosystems Alive, Discovery Theatre Performance
    Friday, April 18, 10:15 & 11:30 AM
    (for ages 8-12) In this live-animal show, Jennifer Pennington (expert from Reptiles Alive!) introduces visitors to a black rat snake, a bearded dragon, a snapping turtle, and a boa constrictor and explains how these creatures thrive and survive in their environments. Learn some earth-friendly lessons about the impact of pollution, the necessity of conservation, and the importance of our planet's ecosystems.
    Note: $6, adults; $5, children (ages 2-16); $4, Resident Members.

    Environmental Video Screening: The Endangered Species
    Through the efforts of the Earth Conservation Corps (ECC), a group of at-risk young adults from under-resourced communities is providing environmental solutions to the polluted Anacostia River banks. A discussion follows with the CEO of ECC Glen O'Gilvie and youth coordinator LaShauntya Moore, who appears in the video.

    Green Apple Festival
    April 18th-20th
    Enjoy a weekend of music and environmental awareness culminating on Sunday, April 20th, with eight free festivals occurring simultaneously at landmark locations across the U.S. including Washington, D.C., New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Miami, Denver and Chicago.

    Earth Day '08
    April 14th-19th, 2008
    Earth Week in Grand Central includes The Giant Earth Images show. This inspiring projection show features Earth-related artwork, photographs, quotes and messages that are projected on two giant pilars in the Main Concourse of Grand Central Terminal. Several well-known artists have contributed work to the project, including Andy Warhol, Rafal Olbinski, Keith Haring, Ronald Feldman and others. Earth Week culminates with EarthFair, a two-day festival of music, education and fun!

    Earth Day - Seas the Day
    New York Aquarium, Coney Island, April 19th-20th
    Honor planet Earth and its oceans with music, dancing, and crafts activities using recyclable materials! The day features a Green Fest, where environmentally-friendly vendors will show you how to pitch in to help keep our planet green.

    California State Parks Foundation
    Saturday, April 19th
    California residents of all ages, regions and experience can volunteer with the California State Parks Foundation to get involved in environmental improvement projects at their state parks, local parks and communities, while learning about behaviors that will help to sustain the planet for future generations. Statewide, thousands of volunteers each year plant trees and community gardens, restore trails and wildlife habitats, and clean up beaches and park lands.

    Los Angeles Children's Earth Day 2008
    Sunday, April 27th 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the STAR ECO Station
    Los Angeles Children's Earth Day 2008 features games, crafts, activities, healthy cuisine and live entertainment designed to inspire children to help protect the planet. Bringing together various eco-friendly organizations, the event is designed to show families of Southern California that they are a vital part of a larger, worldwide environmental effort. Attendance at the Los Angeles Children's Earth Day is expected to number 20,000 participants and attendees.

    Sacramento Earth Day 2008
    Ongoing events from April 18th through April 26th
    Sacramento's Earth Day activities include a celebration of local green businesses, neighborhood tours of developments, community gardens, and important trees, talks by environmental experts and local clean-ups.

    Asheville Earth Day 2008
    Saturday, April 19, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
    Live music; an eco-village featuring local businesses; speakers; a kids area featuring crafts, games and storytelling; and food vendors are all included in Asheville's celebration.

    Earth Day Indiana
    Saturday, April 26, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    The Earth Day Indiana Festival combines 100 environmental and conservation exhibits with live music from some of Indiana's best new bands, special activities for kids and good food.

    Earthfest Dallas
    Friday, April 18, 2008
    Earthfest is a street fair with a variety of acts and activities taking place on the event's two stages throughout the day. A Recycled Fashion Show connects highly creative, cutting-edge design with recyled materials. Teams of volunteers from a large number of downtown Dallas businesses participate in a range of downtown cleanup activities.

    Louisiana Earth Day
    Sunday, April 20th, 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
    The theme for this year's festivities in downtown Baton Rouge is "Lead the Way," encouraging citizens to take the lead as environmental stewards. Creative, hands-on environmental education activities offer fun and foster stewardship, and great Louisiana music provides all a chance to celebrate the planet.

    Richmond Earth Day & Fish Festival
    Saturday, April 19, 2008 , 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Celebrate peace, love and planet Earth with Earth Day and Fish Festival. The day features guided tours, tree planting ceremonies, movie events, fish stocking of the canal, music on two stages, arts and crafts, kids activities like mural painting and sidewalk drawing and much more.

    Tucson Earth Day Festival
    Saturday, April 19, 2008 , 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
    The 14th Annual Tucson Day Festival theme this year is "All Species Need Clean Air!" The event features environmentally-themed exhibits, music, performances and food vendors. There will also be art contests and recycling collections. All exhibits include hands-on environmental activities for children.

    Chicago Kayak Earth Day 2008
    Sunday April 20 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
    Bring a canoe or kayak and do your clean up from the water's edge. Participants can also borrow boats--first come first served. Lots of trash on land, so you don't need to be on the water to help!

    Acts of Concern: Earth Day 2008
    Monday April 21st
    The Chicago Humanities Festival is pleased to celebrate Earth Day 2008 by remounting—all in one evening—this vivid reading of four original and provocative works commissioned for and presented at last fall's "Climate of Concern" Festival.
