The Wilderness Society, whose mission is "to protect wilderness and inspire Americans to care for our wild places," is putting together a "Great American Backyard Bucket List." The idea is to identify the ultimate wilderness destinations in the United States, and the society is asking for help.

The group is looking for nominations of great wilderness areas, national parks, national forests, national wildlife refuges or national monuments, and there are plenty to choose from. From the newest designated wilderness area, Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, to the oldest, Gila Wilderness, there are 110 million acres of federal lands designated as wilderness.
