I love old stories like this. It's so strange to think that the automobile, something so mundane and ordinary today, was the stuff of legend and immense hype only a century ago. One wonders what they would think of NASCAR or modern day drag racing. "A mile a minute", how about a 1/4 of a mile in 5 seconds! Truly amazing.
