There’s no such thing as old age for Turritopsis nutricula. When this hydrozoan—easily mistaken for a jellyfish—encounters difficult times, it changes from its tentacled form into a blob, anchors itself to a surface and reverts to its juvenile state as a stalky polyp. Scientists think that T. nutricul can repeat this cycle over and over. This immortality is likely helping the hydrozoan to accomplish the one thing every supervillain desires—world domination. The Caribbean native has been found as far away as Japan, having hitched a ride in the ballast of ships.
