Parasitic Mind Control

In comic books, experts at mind control tell someone what to do, or plant an idea in a person’s mind, and then that individual does what they’re told. Parasites with this ability are a bit more subtle. Toxoplasma gondii, for example, has a life cycle that requires it to get from a rat to a cat. To accomplish that, it infects the rat’s brain and makes it less scared of felines and, thus, more likely to get eaten. More worrisome for humans, however, is a theory that T. gondii may infect people too and cause some to behave in self-destructive ways.
