The Pink Dragon Millipede’s Chemical Weaponry

This surprising species—from the Greater Mekong region of Thailand—looks almost as if it could be wearing a superhero’s spangly jumpsuit. Its shocking pink coloring, though, likely warns predators of its toxicity. Scientists who discovered the small, multilegged arthropod noted that it smells like almonds—because it produces deadly hydrogen cyanide in defensive glands.
