Toadpile

Two male American toads (Bufo americanus) attempt to amplex with a female toad, at the bottom of the pile. Nearby, dozens of other males are calling and competing for mates. Amphibians are experiencing rapid declines worldwide, though fortunately such declines have not yet been observed in the Northeastern US.
