Last Moments of a Dying Tornado

A needle-shaped tornado churns up dirt in a field north of Kinsley, Kansas. It is seen against a vivid orange sky in this photo taken just before sunset. This was the last seconds of life for this tornado; it had become detached from the parent storm and was spinning on fast-decaying momentum.
