People taking a bath during a local religious fair

Poras Chaudhary (Kurukshetra, India)
Photographed August 2008, Kurukshetra, India

“The whole atmosphere was very lively,” Chaudhary says of the solar eclipse festival where he took this image. “There was so much to shoot: water, reflections, pilgrims, sadhus. I couldn’t resist. As a travel photographer I am able to capture a whole story in one frame, making the viewer feel the place.”

Although it is a very nice picture, and does deserve the prize, I do agree with Matt Fitt, and did comment on all the Asian pictures that end up winning in the travel category. The photographer (mostly a man) usually has an advantage due to his familiarity with his surrounding and the ease of interraction with his compatriots. These photos are exotic to our western eyes. I wonder if a magnificent picture taken in New York by a Californian would have the same chance.

Wonderful photo!

It does seem ironic, however, that the winning photo in the Travel category was taken in the photographer's home town.

The legs on the right side of this photo - topped with the splash of a red skirt, frame this photo. Together with the lighting and the action, this is a unique and wonderful photo

Lovely clarity from a great angle.

Very artsy shot and great use of your wide-angle lens.
Celebrating life, Debra

Really impressive composition and lighting.
