Amber firefly

The Natural World Winner

Amber firefly

Radim Schreiber (Fairfield, Iowa)
Photographed July 2010, Fairfield, Iowa

“In the Czech Republic where I grew up, I only saw fireflies a couple of times, deep in the forest,” Schreiber recalls. “When I came to the United States, I was shocked and thrilled to see the abundance of fireflies and their amazing glow. I was happy to encounter this firefly and photograph its magical bioluminescence.”

Love it!!!

Beautiful pictures...I noticed you are from Fairfield, IA that is where I was born and raised :)) Small world!

Absolutely the best photo i have ever seen; 2nd all of the above comments. Sharing with my grandson who loves watching fireflies every night!

Beautiful!

This was my first choice winner. It's a wonderful shot. I'm glad the judges felt so too.

This is incredibly beautiful.

A photographic haiku!

The picture of the Amber Firefly was amazing. The color captured in the picture and its arrangement was eye engaging.

Beautiful:-)

This one gets my vote. Fleeting , ethereal , breath taking.

There is rigorous competition this year. But this is moment of time and essence. The time of day alone is a challenge. The water droplets, composition, lighting all complimenting a fleeting moment. It's mystical,,,My vote,,,,Thank you..

Of all the photographs I reviewed, I felt this one was the very best. The timing by the photographer was perfect. Such patience to be able to catch the "glow" of the firefly at its peak was incredible. You certainly deserve my vote without question. Good luck!
