I love all the shades of brown that blend to give it the rich feel of masculinity, strength and a dirty job.

This photo brings to mind two words... MARRY ME

phony. no one who does hard work, especially the pick and shovel labor of a miner, would wear a wrist watch. It would be soon broken. I know; 39 years in a steel mill.

Great character study - a hard working man, such interesting eyes - they show the smile that is almost on his lips. Nice to see that the college students get some real life experience. Captures the grit you have in mining.

Definitely AMERICANA! -- both North and South. The simplicity reminds me of how little coal mining has progressed. Safety laws exist, but most miners take their lives in their hands because management woud rather pay fines than protect them from cave-ins, black lung disease and ther ever-present fear that hangs like a cloud over their lives.

I vote for the miner because I was a coal miner for 30 years.Miners are family, we bond no matter what our nationality, color, religion or sex may be we stick together because we know the nature of our job its risks and its rewards. I'm most grateful to all miners because from the darkness beneath the earth comes one of our most covenanted resource it brings LIGHT.

A "Student" miner..yet perhaps the eyes have already seen more than they should

Although this is a great picture shouldn't it fall under the 'people' category?

Out of all the photos this one just stands out. And all it is is a simple miner taking a brake. He looks so happy and piece full. It's an eye catcher.
