Great White Egret

Readers' Choice Winner

Great White Egret

Antonio Soto (Weston, Florida)
Photographed March 2009, South Florida

A simple modification such as blacking out a background can yield dramatic results—as is the case with this photo of an egret. “These birds are magnificent animals,” Soto says, “and I have been photographing them since I was 18 years old.” This is the first Altered Images entry to win the Readers’ Choice award.

What an exquisite creature, and your treatment brings that out simply and perfectly (except for the missing feet which I hadn't really missed until Tom mentioned it).

Beautiful but I doubt it was The best one

A great photo is one that you should be able to hang in a prominent place in your home and never get tired of looking at it. It should also wow any visitors to your home. This one does all that for me!

Very good shot, but cutting off where the feet should be spoils it for me.

PLEAS DISCLOSE HOW YOU ACCOMPLISHED THE PERFECTLY BLACK BACKROUND. HOW YOU MADE THIS PRINT. THANKS, DAVE BLOM DAVEB4444@AOL.COM

wow amazing pic that man is my uncle yay

Yes, this one definitely has my vote. The starkness of white against the black background illuminates this wonderful egret - almost like an oil painting in detail.

just a GREAT BIG WOW.

exquisitely lovely.Deserves a prize.

Again, the "natural" beauty which nature provides. In our busy lives these days not many take the time to enjoy all that the wonders of nature provides.

Incredibly beautiful! My choice for the best of the best. This is art, not photography.

I like it! It's simple.

Great shot, but how do you get a black background to make it perfect?

Contrast - I love it - see how the feathers become light out of the darkness. Beautiful. I love it, pkm
