I was struck by all the vertical lines, the window frame, the drape, the stair railings, and the girl's legs, sweater, hair, and socks. Next I had the thought, "She is captured on the brink, poised between child and woman."

Thank you ibn, to many people look at technicalities and do not view from the heart and soul. The key to art is do you touch someone with emotional feelings of any kind. Not everyone is going to like the same things but art comes from the soul not a tech manual, thank God for that.

Sometimes photography isn't about the technical or compositional aspects.
Most of these photos look like stock images from the Getty. This offers something more intimate and more poignant.

I agree with the previous poster. When I ended up at this one after looking at a ll the previous ones, my first thought was - why is it on the list? There is no doubt that this image can be of great sentimental and emotional value to some, b ut from a technical or compositional point of view, it has very little to offer.

Sorry, I hope I am not hurting the feelings of the photographer. There is nothing wrong with the picture, but I am surprised it made the finalist's cut. Compared to other finalists and non-finalists' photos in the people category, it is, in my humble opinion, just an average snapshot of a portrait.

I initially went through all the photos quickly but paused a bit on this one, then continued on. I found several I liked and lined them all up to take a look but this one evoked some sort of emotion and connection. There were others that were highly technical and amazing but I found myself coming back to this one. I can't quite put my find one it, but I like it. That's what makes it a piece of art to me. Very well done. Thank you.
