Dining in Gion

Bogdan Bratosin (Redmond, WA)
Photographed January 2008, Kyoto, Japan

Strolling through Kyoto's Gion district, Bratosin looked up and saw the brightly lit restaurant. He felt as if he were peering into a dollhouse carefully arranged with figures inside. "I've looked at this restaurant as the perfect representation of the mixture of traditional and modern, which is present everywhere in Kyoto," he says.

Andreas Gursky's influence is alive and well,!

brilliant

I totally get the feeling of looking inside the building like a doll house. Makes me think that with five floors in that restauarant ,and more than likely multiple nationalities represented, that there was Peace represented on earth when this picture was taken. Wonder if they were eating Egg Drop soup-seems ro calm my soul. Would love to use this photo in a cookbook some day!Looks like a wonderful dining experience and photo.

Certainly people have something to say about this shot?! I think it has the potential to be much better if it was cropped to show a narrower view a la Warhol, with ability to see the body language and even facial content. This is different but the distance is less compelling.

so many rooms, so many conversations, so many lives. each little square, like a continuing slide show.

Shades of 'Rear Window'. Very cool.
