family ford

Helen Ruth Johnson (Cincinnati, OH)
Photographed Summer 1948, Bryant, South Dakota

After World War II "we needed a boost to our spirits," remembers Johnson of the 1948 Ford her family purchased—the first, she says, sold out of Oneida, South Dakota. "We were the envy of the town."

This is so Americana it almost sings. Truly a picture of the "man thing". I just love it.

This is definitely a 1949 Ford. (My first car was a '49 Ford). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this was also the last of the "flat-head" V-8s. I think the '50 was the beginning of the OHV engines for Ford.

The car can be dated by the hinge on the trunk lid, 1949!

How well I remember watching men and young boys peer into the inner sanctum under a hood, wordless with wonderment! Love this photo.

It absolutely is a 1949 Ford.

I believe the 1948 Ford is actually a 1949 Ford. The 1948 marked the end of the older body style.
