River Ferry Operating in the Early Morning in Xiao Donjiang, China
James Khoo
A river ferry moves along Xiaodong River at dawn. “The red lanterns against the blue misty morning provided the contrast and strengthened the image as a whole,” says the photographer, for whom this was the first use of a digital rather than film camera, a Nikon D300.

magical, eerie, wonderful-- ghostly setting for high drama, spy film or travel adventure... amazing image that deserves recognition

good use of light and reflection-- the image is not what the eye expects and so you have to look at it more closely to find the sky in the sea

very stark as if the bull's days are numbered an about to be trumpeted by the spectators in the stands

the symmetry and parallelism between the salt piles and baskets is striking. the harsh light is very reflective of the hash labor, so big thumbs up on this image as it gives not only a story, but lasting allegorical figure as well.
