Zoo Miami houses more than 2,000 wild animals in a cageless setting that gives the visitor the feeling of embarking on a safari. Guests can remain cool throughout various water play areas, hand feed giraffes, ride camels, encounter Indian rhinos, and meet Nickelodeon’s favorite animal rescuer, Diego.
Amazon & Beyond, a 27-acre tropical American exhibit, opened at Zoo Miami in December of 2008. This exhibit features more than 100 species of animals like giant river otters, jaguars, harpy eagles and anacondas. It houses more than 600 individuals from central and South America’s Cloud Forest, Amazon Forest and Atlantic Forest.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
