One of only a handful of museums worldwide that were born out of the mechanics institutes movement that still functions as a museum. See natural history collections, art and artifacts from the Harmony Society.

Exhibits

Natural history exhibits include a renowned mussel shell collection, European art and items from the Harmony Society, a German religious group that lived in New Harmony from 1814-1824.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
