The Walt Whitman Birthplace is the only NY State Historic Site on Long Island listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Open to the public; WWBA aims to create a greater passion for reading and writing through exhibits, tours, educational and cultural events.
Over the span of 20 years, Robert Turney has met many poets and has taken their photo. He brings these photos to the Walt Whitman Gathering House in his exhibit, "The Face of Poetry". Some of the poets featured include Allen Ginsberg, Maya Angelou, William Staford, and his wife, Diane Wakoski.
