In The Cause of Liberty explores the Civil War - its causes, course, and legacies - on a national scale and is housed in the war's greatest artifact- the 1861 Tredegar Gun Foundry. Located along the James River in downtown Richmond, the Center is situated on an 8.3-acre National Historic Landmark, home to the Confederacy's largest foundry.
The 10,000-square-foot signature exhibit includes films, timelines, maps, and artifacts. It explains the total story of the war from three perspectives: Union, Confederate and African American.
