The museum's interpretive exhibits begin 15,000 years ago with prehistoric humans and continue through the early 1900s. Special displays include Tennessee made furniture, silver, quilts and paintings. The Civil War holdings of uniforms, battle flags and weapons are among the finest in the nation.
All permanent exhibits will be open. The Exhibits include Native American Indians, explorers, pioneers, the Antebellum age, Civil War and the beginning of a new century.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
