The Stonington Historical Society’s Old Lighthouse Museum overlooks Fishers Island Sound. Visitors climb the tower for a view over this quaint seaside village. Also visit the Captain Nathaniel Palmer House, a National Historic Landmark, 19th-century home of the American discoverer of Antarctica.
The Lighthouse Museum is packed with exhibits on the town's maritime heritage. Special Lighthouse exhibit is interactive. The Capt. Palmer House offers guided tours. Exhibit on the Discovery of Antarctica by Capt. Palmer in 1820 and his later career as captain and designer of tea clippers.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis.
