The Stark Museum of Art houses one of the finest collections of nineteenth and twentieth century Western American art and artifacts in the country. The collection focuses on the stunning land, the dramatic people and the diverse wildlife of the American West.
Museum Day card holders will receive a set of note cards of museum masterworks; admission is always free. A docent will give a spotlight presentation on "Charles Bird King and His Indian Portraits" at 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. Exhibition: Visions of the West. Highlights of the Western collection of the Stark Museum of Art. The exhibition explores how the land, wildlife, individuals, conflicts, and communities shape our concepts of the American West.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
