As a Smithsonian Affiliate the Stafford Air and Space Museum houses one of the most comprehensive collections of space and aviation exhibits in the central United States. Discover the legacy of Weatherford’s own, General Thomas P. Stafford, who expanded the boundaries of aviation and space travel, traveling to the moon and back. Inside the museum, visitors can “follow the stars” through a self-tour at their own leisurely pace, traveling through time to the beginning of flight with the Wright Brothers and into early space flight.
Must see exhibits inside the museum include the restored V-2 rocket engine: the world's first ballistic missile, the engine was made in a Nazi Germany concentration camp; F-1 Engine and J-2 Engine: these engines were used on the Saturn V Rocket, these engines on display are flight ready back ups; Titan II Missile: rocket used to launch the Gemini missions; General Stafford's Apollo X space suit, worn during his mission to the moon!
