The Spellman Museum is dedicated both to the study of philately and to educating the general public about the rich history of stamps and the postal system. Programs are directed to adults and children and feature a mail gallery, an activity room and a special exhibit gallery. Exhibits are changed by season and a Gift Shop and U.S.post office provide both philatelic materials and general stamp related items as gifts. Family days are held on a regular basis and special programs for students and adults are offered on site and off campus. Stamp evaluations are also available by appointment.

Exhibits

Zeppelin Mail, Patriotic Stamps, Civil War Letters and Envelopes, displays of antique stamp cases, children's postal games, Massachuetts on Stamps, Hispanic Heritage on stamps, history of the Boston Post Road, exhibit of colonial mail. Children's activities include arts and crafts with stamps and various stamp games and puzzles for prizes. Also two cent boxes are available for children to search to start their collection.Free packet of stamps for each child plus tips about how to start a collection.




Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
