The Sonoma County Museum celebrates and interprets the region's rich history, art, and culture by exhibiting and collecting relevant objects and artworks, by serving as a vital community gathering place, and by inspiring visitors with dynamic experiences that engage, educate, and enlighten.
Three different exhibitions will be on display: Artistry in Wood: 21st Annual Exhibition in the Main Gallery; Kay Sekimachi: Fiber Artist, in the Contemporary Project Space; and Edwin Deakin: California Painter of the Picturesque, in the Mezzanine Gallery. On July 30th there will be a lecture about Edwin Deakin by Scott Shields, Chief Curator of the Crocker Art Museum and author of a book about Deakin.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
