Built in 1870, the Sodus Bay Lighthouse and attached keeper's dwelling are located on Lake Ontario's shore. Visitors can climb 56 steps to the top for panoramic views, learn about local and maritime history from exhibits, browse the gift shop, and stroll through beautiful gardens.

Exhibits

Exhibits describe the history of the Sodus Bay Lighthouse and surrounding area. A display about the War of 1812 explains the battle of Sodus Point. A replica of a steamship's first-class berth tells of a former age. One model outlines the never-constructed Sodus Canal.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
