Through its exhibitions, education, and outreach programs, the Santa Monica Museum of Art fosters diversity, innovation, and discovery in contemporary art—local, national, and international. Unique to the Westside of Los Angeles, Santa Monica Museum of Art is a risk-taking, non-collecting museum, whose exhibitions and programs reveal the vibrant, untold stories and pivotal moments in the history of contemporary art and culture.

Exhibits

Santa Monica Museum of Art presents "Beatrice Wood: Career Woman—Drawings, Paintings, Vessels, and Objects", a comprehensive survey and new assessment of this seminal artist who made a remarkable body of ceramic luster ware until just a few years before her death in 1998 at the age of 105. This mono graphic exhibition—including over 100 works of art— offers a commemorative evaluation of Wood’s extraordinary life and career that traversed and contributed to the cultural and artistic highlights of the 20th century.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
