SBMM mission is to preserve and celebrate the maritime heritage of the California Coast and present it to the public in an interesting and exciting way.

Exhibits

SBMM has Commercial diving and fishing, Historic fishing boats, History of Surfing, Shipwrecks, Environmental movement, Chumash, Island ranching, Art, Military Actions, Ship models, Interactive exhibits, 1969 oil spill, Channel Island History, Diving Bell and much more. Daily films, monthly lectures, facility rentals and annual events are also offered.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
