The Civil Rights Memorial, designed by Vietnam Veterans Memorial architect Maya Lin, and the Civil Rights Memorial Center honor those who lost their lives during the modern American Civil Rights Movement.

In addition to state-of-the-art exhibits, visitors can sign the Wall of Tolerance and join those who publicly stand for justice and tolerance.

Exhibits

The Civil Rights Memorial Center includes: The Martyr Room, a twenty minute original film about the Movement, an area dedicated to contemporary social justice issues and the Wall of Tolerance.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
