Located in downtown Baltimore, two blocks east of Inner Harbor, sits the 82,000 square feet Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture, also known as “The Lewis.” The museum tells the stories of ordinary and extraordinary African American heroes in Maryland, through its dynamic collection, educational and entertaining programs and special exhibitions. Visitors meet people who lived courageous lives and left a legacy of resilience and determination.
The museum building is bold, striking and powerful inside and out, and also houses a café, meeting spaces, a 200-seat theater and a museum shop.
Beyond Swastika and Jim Crow: Jewish Refugee Scholars at Black Colleges, On View through Sept. 26, 2010. This exhibition explores a unique bond that grew between two groups-Jewish professors who fled Nazi Germany and African American students at historically black collges where the refugee professors taught.
