Redwood Library and Athenaeum is a blend of library, museum, and architectural gem. Founded in 1747, Redwood is the oldest lending library in America; it's fine art collections include portraits, prints, sculpture and furniture; and it is a National Historic Monument, restored in 2006.
'Newport's Own: Portraits by Jane Stuart' is perhaps the largest exhibitions of the artists work since her death in 1888. Also on exhibit: 'Books of Many Colors: Decorated Cloth Bindings, 1850s to 1900s', and works from the permanent collection.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
