Rankin Museum features collections of Native American lithic materials and artifacts including Amazon Indian ceremonial items; Eskimo ivory carvings. Natural history exhibits include animal mounts from North and Central America and Africa. Fossil collections span 500 million years. Local history includes a 500-gallon turpentine still.

Exhibits

Significant to the early development of Ellerbe, the turpentine industry flourished in the early 20th century. Rankin Museum features an exhibit explaining the impact of the timber and turpentine businesses which attracted a rail line. Central to the exhibit is a well-preserved 500 gallon still.




Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis.
