Fabulous Flatware: Non-traditional Tools of the Table

The Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, will host an exhibit of non-traditional flatware from August 27 to December 17, 2011. Drawn primarily from the collection of Dr. William P. Hood Jr., the exhibition will feature some 250 patterns dating from 1898 to 2011. Highlighting the changes in flatware over time--in terms of style, size and form, functional types, designers and producers, and materials and techniques--the exhibition is sure to educate and excite audiences about this seldom considered artform.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
