PPHM is the largest history museum in Texas with 2 million artifacts comprising collections of western heritage, archeology, paleontology, transportation, textiles, and fine and decorative art.

Exhibits

PPHM's renowned saddle collection is back and includes more saddles than have ever been on display. The exhibition title, "Not Just for Show", says it all. These saddles are from prominent saddle makers who crafted a working saddle used by cowboys on the plains.

Also on exhibit "Opening the Cabinet Doors" features a broad range of American Indian artifacts items to show the breadth of the PPHM collection.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
