The Rotary Jail Museum houses the only working rotary jail in the United States. Built in 1882, the 32 ton rotary cell block which consists of 16 wedge-shaped cells on two floors is designed to turn in a complete circle. It was designed to be "escape proof".

The wall of the museum will be bursting with quilts of many colors and styles.




Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
