The N.C. Museum of History is located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. See exhibits highlighting the state’s military history, decorative arts, sports heroes and more. The Museum Shop features North Carolina crafts. All exhibits are currently free. Free weekend parking.

Exhibits

See Part One of The Story of North Carolina, which traces the state's story from its earliest inhabitants through the 1830s.(Part Two opens Nov. 5 and tells the rest of the story.) Other exhibits highlight military history, decorative arts, sports heroes and more.




Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
