  • Museum Day Hours of Operation
  • 11:00am - 6:00pm

The Museum of the African Diaspora showcases the history, art and the cultural richness that resulted from the dispersal of Africans throughout the world with innovative and engaging exhibitions, education and public programs.

Through our programs we ensure that MoAD is a primary resource for knowledge and information about the African Diaspora and African American culture and a dynamic venue for the presentation of innovative and enriching exhibits and programs that tell the extraordinary stories about survival, adaptation, transformation and creativity of people of African descent.

Exhibits

COLLECTED: Stories of Acquisition and Reclamation
features local collectors of art, artifacts and other objects of material and popular culture. Through the presentation of selected works from these collections the exhibition addresses the question of how collectors make aesthetic choices and the political as well as social issues and forces that drive their unique collecting focus and sensibility. The collectors represent different generations and show how the impulse to collect continues today among a younger generation.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
