Pass through our giant mesquite doors, and you will understand why the Museum of South Texas History is unlike any other! Rio Grande Legacy, our signature exhibit, takes you through more than five centuries of history - from the pre-historic era, European and Mexican exploration, wars and development of ranches and towns.
In our newest addition, River Crossroads, experience the 20th century from the arrival of the railroad, agricultural development, the turmoil of the Mexican Revolution and World Wars to the rapid changes of the post-war years.
Our third gallery is located in the 1910 Hidalgo County Jail, a Texas Historic Landmark, and is used for changing exhibitions. So why delay? Come discover our region’s rich history and traditions! Make us your next family outing and we will surely take you on a journey like no other!
September will be an exciting time at the Museum of South Texas History! With the Edinburg Centennial Celebration right around the corner, the Museum will host the Edinburg Centennial Exhibit. Designed to be a look at the history of the city, the exhibit will chronicle the one-hundred years since the creation of the small town turned city. The Museum will also hold the touring Going to Texas map exhibit. Finally, the Museum will continue to hold the permanent Rio Grande Legacy exhibits
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis.
