Founded in 1901, the Society of Illustrators is a
nonprofit educational organization dedicated to the promotion of illustration, its history and evolving nature through exhibitions, lectures and education. The Museum of American Illustration is headquartered in an 1875 vintage carriage house in New York's Upper East Side.

Exhibits

ROLLING STONE AND THE ART OF THE ALBUM REVIEW
Rolling Stone is a U.S.-based magazine devoted to music, politics and popular culture. In the late seventies the music column featuring album reviews transitioned into using illustration. This exhibit highlights over 30 years of work that has been published in this arena. Free to all visitors.

ART OUT LOUD
Top fantastic illustrators will demonstrate their skills and techniques in an open art forum. Including Julie Bell, Rick Berry, Donato, Greg Manchess and Boris Vallejo. Prices TBD.




Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
