  • 11:00am - 4:00pm

Constructed in 1799 as a carriage house and converted into a hotel in 1826, the Museum transports visitors back to the Mount Vernon Hotel, a 19th-century country resort for New Yorkers escaping the crowded city below 14th Street. Tour the period rooms and garden and learn about travel, leisure, work and play in antebellum New York.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
